Dropped some stuff at the new apartment, took some pics but it was mostly to document things being damaged or stained. Will do some actual pics of it. It's nice and it will be a lot quieter than this place, where you hear people enter the doors and leave the doors and WALK down the freaking hall. New place has more separate units. And while it has a nice little pantry thing, I am still disappointed with counter space and thinking there's also not going to be room for appliances to sit out, like crockpot and fryer and such so...they will have to sit in the mini pantry till I use them. But YAY for a self cleaning oven? I don't know what kinda cleaning they did but it was not in depth at all, as parts are dusty, including drawers, and I'm already thinking I want to have some kind of bin thing to store cooking utensils, rather than laying them out directly in drawer.
While there, was looking at the master bedroom and plotting where stuff will go. Bed against the west wall, I think, and near the window, with the dresser opposite and the TV resting on dresser. Then a small desk for computer maybe by window? This will require planning.
Talked to sister about my plan to rent UHaul truck, she thought it was unnecessary, that all could be hauled by car, but that would require multiple trips and the bed, for one, would require an actual truck, which means borrowing her hubby's truck, and he can be such a pisser about things...I came back with the argument that it would be better to get it all done at once, load it up then unload it in one trip and it's DONE.
One other nice thing about the place? There's parking RIGHT in front of the door. So it's a real short walk from car to front door. Unlike this place, where it's first come first serve with the parking places and hopefully the front lot is not all full when you're coming home with groceries.
Ianto wasn't one of my favorite charas, though he was the most utterly mundane of the Torchwood team. I found Toshiko's death to be far more upsetting but I shed some tears for Ianto all the same. Over the lists there's a lot of anguishing and anger over his death but again, I missed Toshiko much more. And maybe Owen, in the end.
Thing that pisses me off? This decision to cull kids from the lower achieving schools. Let's forget about their social and economic background, it's just them being lazy and stupid and they're all destined to be on the dole or in prison, yeah? What bullshit. As they're sitting there debating this, I'm thinking lottery is the way to go. Like in Dragonslayer, toss some tiles in the pot, draw out names, those are the ones to take. Don't be settling on kids whose parents didn't have the money to send them to a posh school.
Ianto also hasn't been one of the most interesting characters for me. Gwen has been one; after seeing the reaction across various LJs, I was worried she'd be the one to die but...WHEW. How they wrap this up should be interesting. And is there any word on future series? I was disappointed to see they went with a miniseries-type length rather than the full 13 episodes. Doctor Who will also be doing this kinda thing as well, to my equal disappointment.
