It needs to be said, I fucking LOVE the Internet. Thanks to the Internet, I can watch a show being aired in the UK soon as it gets loaded up online.

My take on the 456? They did the initial contact in 1965, to see if the human race was willing to sacrifice children for the sake of a vaccine for a virus. Did the virus actually exist? Who knows? This isn't addressed and for there to really be a virus there would have to have been actual cases to prove it was a real viable health threat, necessitating the deal and the vaccine. The 456 finds the kids tasty, not in the chowing down sense, but in some weird drug snorting sense. Yeah, I don't get how that works either. Maybe it's the hormones and endorphins or something the 456 was smoking up. They come back, toss around their weight a bit, and demand 10% of the world's population of children, or they'll destroy the human race. And demonstrate their ability to do so by wiping out the inhabitants of the building.

But they get sent packing by the shrieking of children because, oh, good LORD, there is no weapon so powerful or possessing so much the ability to drive you mad, as a child shrieking. FOR REAL. Now we only get to see one entity in the chamber so...was it a collective consciousness inhabiting one of the 1965 children? Or more than one? If so, why not get all pissed and come down to Earth to smite us for the killing of their envoy?

Their mindset seemed to be, you dealt with us once, no problem, you'll do it again. A bigger payout this time, of course, but if the payout doesn't happen, then they go on their way. The first time it was a carrot and this time the stick, but did they ever really plan to use the stick?

Various complaints across LJ is the show was too grim, too horrific, and the loss of Ianto was all the more disturbing. Like was said elsewhere, Torchwood is Doctor Who for grownups. The world is going to be darker, more horrific. Does no one remember the cannibal clan from season one, snatching up passerbys to snack on? I LIKE the darkness of it, the grimness, and Children of Earth exposes the nasty brutal underside of human nature, taps into our Xfiles-fueled paranoia about the government and its dark workings.

I liked it, I thought it worked well, though I'd really like to have a full series rather than not quite half, and all of it in a minseries. For the new Torchwood...I don't know about Lois but, oh, I'd like to see the scary government lady (as she's been called in one of the LJs I looked through) brought onto the team. She has Jack's ruthlessness and only a smidgeon of his sentimentality, plus a devotion to her service, though not completely blind devotion given her end assistance to Jack and team.

And I guess if this series got good ratings, they'd go ahead and do another, huh? Here's hoping!
